From the linked article,
Wow, wonder what that’s like. I’ve had the “jumbo dog” at Weiner Works in Fayetteville and that was like eating a slab of pure bologna. Durham could use some good hot dog joints, I’ll have to check this place out.

I went to Joe’s Diner for lunch yesterday. Lots of breakfast and lunch options but hot dogs are heavily featured here (no pun intended). They have four kinds: regular, spicy, beef sausage, and pinapple(?). Some of these come in various sizes: footlong, 1/4, 1/2, and 1 pound. There were a couple of ladies there interviewing somebody and then they shot some photos and then the 1 pound dog they had ordered arrived. It is massive!
I got a regular footlong and a spicy 1/4 lb. pastrami dog. The dogs are grilled not boiled and they are quality. These differences are much appreciated over the boiled, mystery meat weiners served at the various Dog Houses in Durham. The weiners snap when youbite into them and sometimes juice will shoot out of them so be careful and dress casually when you go there. The spicy weiner really was spicy, but will skip the pastrami next time.
Sorry, if I’m stereotyping but I would not go to Joe’s after sundown. It looks rather sketchy around there. But for lunch or afternoon snack, I’ll be back to try more of their menu.

Great writeup on the dogs, thanks for that. I looked for this place the other day when I was in the area, couldn’t manage to find it. Didn’t feel too great about walking around on foot to look for it either if you know what I mean… next time I’ll have the address with me…

we went for breakfast last saturday. everyone was really nice and pleasant. They are still working out a bunch of kinks, but i can forgive them because they really are doing a good thing and their hearts are exactly in the right place. I’m so happy to see some positive activity on this once great street.
we had the egg specials. bacon was cooked perfectly and the sausage was a really tasty fat link of smoked sausage. the potatoes were real and tasty. toast was griddled–a plus for me!
cons: i can overlook paper plates and plastic cutlery, even though its wasteful. its fine. i can forgive weak coffee in a diner, its par for the course. but i cant forgive the only available cream being international delights french vanilla flavor.
they are still figuring out the ordering and delivery system. which was messy. the kid taking the order meant well, but wasnt up to it. and the cook shouldnt have to run dishes to tables. one cashier, one runner, and the cook, maybe a busser…that should suffice this place.
owner was a nice guy, obviously a bit frazzled. he needs to calm down and just let it happen.
