Change. It’s here.
Welcome to the new Carpe Durham!
As many of you know, we have graduated law school and will, unfortunately, be relocating out of the area. While we plan to visit frequently and continue to review when we do, we decided to make some changes to try and make the site more community driven. To implement some new features, we migrated off of wordpress.com and onto our own dedicated server.
So, what’s new?
New Authors: A group of dedicated readers has stepped up to continue the cause. If you are interested in helping (warning: it is a moderately significant time commitment), please email us at the address on the About page.
Ads: We have added some ads to help defray server hosting costs. Sorry about this, but, you know, student loans are coming due and all that. To avoid any conflicts of interest, we will never directly accept advertisements from local restaurants (and if we can figure out how to prevent them from showing up indirectly via Google, etc., we will do that too).
Forum: We have two forums, one for food-related discussion and one for general/off-topic stuff. If you have found a new restaurant that we haven’t reviewed, this would be the place to tell people about it. We really hope that these will become a popular resource for our regular readers. Please use them!
User Registration: Please register an account. You can still comment and post in the forum without your own account, but some current features and other ones we will roll out later will require an account.
Express Your Opinion: Because we had impeccable taste, no one ever disagreed with us. Or something. Now that there will be more authors, we thought there should be a way to measure community disagreement with their reviews. Registered users can now either “generally agree” or “generally disagree” with reviews, and the % agreeing will be displayed below the main body of the post.
Google Map: We now have an automatically generated Google mash-up of the places we have been. Many people requested this, and we are sorry it took so long to get it done.
Review Index: Similarly, we have an automatically generated text index (with link to the relevant review) of all the places we have been.
We hope you like the new site!

It’s so stark! Like a really, really, clean kitchen before beginning to cook. (that’s a good thing).
Best wishes on your future – I’ll look forward to the new contributors too!

This is a great update. Well done!

I’m so glad everyone likes it so far! To give credit where it’s due, RPP did basically everything himself (while I contributed by nagging about whether it was done yet a few times a day). The logo design is the only exception–that was Tommy Gibson (http://tommygibson.com/). Awesome bull, right?

awesome work– keep it comin’

is that a bull or a steer? hard to tell from the angle you’re showing.
[Reply]
It’s a bull. He’s so highly evolved, he uses a fork … Trust me, he’s smart enough to avoid becoming a steer.

Very nice! I’m glad to know you’ll be visiting frequently. Hopefully plenty of new restaurants will open soon, to give you added incentive.
Best of luck in your new jobs!
