New site feature: Restaurant openings report

Posted by RPP 10 Mar 2008 2 Comments

We have written some code to parse information on the Durham County Restaurant Inspections website to determine when new restaurants open in Durham. We will process and report on this list at least monthly, and possibly more frequently depending on how frequently Durham County updates their data. Here is the first batch, which may include some slightly stale information because it is the first time the report is being run:

Chick-Fil-A @ Renaissance Village (7836 Leonardo Drive)
Chipotle Mexican Grill (2608 Erwin Rd Retail Space 17)
Downunder Pub (802 W. Main St.)
Dream Cafe (3550 N Roxboro Rd)
Hilton Garden Inn (7007 Fayetteville Rd)
Mami Nora’s Rotisserie (302 Davidson Ave)
Outtakes at Merck (5325 Old Oxford Hwy)
Remingtons Durham Hilton (4810 Page Creek Lane)
Staybridge Suites Breakfast Bar (3704 Mt Moriah Rd)
Toast (345 W Main St)
#1 Panda House (3808 Suite G Guess Rd)

You rule! I was poking around the Derm County site last year & thought “dang, it wouldn’t be too hard to scrape this for new restaurant openings” but that’s as far as that thought went.

So where’s the googlemaps mashup? Ha! Just kidding (though it wouldn’t be too hard . . .)

Good idea! I will get that added within the next week or so. Just a couple of lines of perl! :)
